Magic Hands
Oil on board
20” x 16”
$1500
This year has forced me to slow down and contemplate my own beliefs and priorities. Among these, is the concept of age and beauty. Magic Hands is a painting based on a photograph from Ari Cohen, and I was immediately drawn to the life and memories evident in the colors and wrinkles of the models' hands. It explores the common misconception and societal notion that time makes us ugly, juxtaposed with ornamental jewelry and painted nails as signs of surface beauty and vanity. I hope that instead of seeing wrinkled, gnarled hands, this painting shows the magic and wisdom that only comes with a life well lived, and that reflecting on life brings a sense of joy and awe instead of constant comparison.
